I love London’s food markets, there are so many to choose from on Saturday and Sunday, with new and improved markets opening all the time. With my friend Cath in town, I put plans in place for us to visit one I was yet to tick off the bucket list, Brockley Market.
Located in Lewisham, this Saturday market, set up in a car park, is rather petite in size compared to some of the others around the city.
However the moment you arrive, you realise that whilst it’s small, it truly has everything your tastebuds could possibly wish for.
The wonderful thing about Brockley Market is the addition of some ‘popular with foodies’ food trucks, which brings a very fun vibe to the place. I spotted some of my favourites straight away, Cheeky Italian, Mother Flipper and a Kooky Bakes stall. It was like bumping into great friends unexpectedly, excited to see them, as I know these guys all deliver the most amazing cuisine.
Standing in the carpark, we decided to do a quick scan and a loop around all the trucks and stalls so we could make our most informed decision on what we’d settle on for lunch. This is not an easy task, when you have Mother Flipper’s Double Candy Bacon Flipper Burger tempting you, Mike + Ollie’s Pork Belly with Fennel and Blood Orange encased in Flatbread, or even Good & Proper Tea’s simple but delicious choice of crumpets with comforting toppings like marmite and cheese.
Cath is a fan of Arancini, the delightfully tasty Italian fried rice ball, therefore she made a beeline for Cheeky Italian and she was not disappointed. These guys make the best Arancini I’ve ever tried, which is a big call being that I visit Italy every year.
That is one happy woman right there!
Within the market, there were numerous stalls, some selling bread, others selling cheese, seafood, juices, pasta…. You name it, it was being sold at Brockley Market.
How amazing does that bread look?
Families, hipsters, small kids and plenty of dogs were enjoying atmosphere. This little guy showed up when I ordered a hot dog, but I was not in the mood for sharing.
My favourite American baking boys, Kooky Bakes, had so many amazing cakes and cupcakes to choose from. I purchased an Easter special that featured a brownie studded with Creme Eggs.
Pick n Mix salad. Love!
After much deliberation, I settled on a Chilli Dog, and I do believe I made a very good choice.
Coffee for the bus ride home. Cath ordered a Flat White and I got a Latte, from Dark Fluid and we were very, very impressed. Don’t miss it if you love coffee and you’re visiting the market.
