Eat | Le Chalet

I love Christmas.  Not ‘like’.  LOVE.  Ever since I can remember, it’s been my favourite holiday of the year.  As a child, I would write detailed lists for Father Christmas, spend hours decorating the tree and I vividly remember laying on my neighbours trampoline, as we all stared up towards the sky, each feeling our own personal agony that there was still ‘three long sleeps til Christmas!’.

All these years later, nothing has changed.  I love Christmas carols, Christmas decorations, Christmas wrapping paper, and Christmas shopping.  I start my gift giving list months before the big day, carefully planning out what to buy everyone.

I also love visiting all the department stores in London, to see their impressive holiday window displays, and I make a point of visiting Christmas markets, drinking mulled wine and watching Christmas themed movies.

As soon as the email came through from Selfridges to announce Le Chalet would be the winter restaurant resident on their rooftop, I made a reservation.

On the day, TBND and I arrived early for a little pre-lunch browsing.  Selfridges is without a doubt my favourite department store ever.  Nothing even comes close.  Not even in New York.

We made a beeline for the Food Hall, because TBND is always hungry, and he was in need of a pre-lunch snack!

Passing the bakery, we spied Crosstown Doughnuts.

It would have been a crime to just walk past without admiring these bakery masterpieces.

And so we stopped.  And shoved one in a paper bag!

Over to the checkout, we quickly paid for our peanut butter & jelly doughnut.

And then we bit into it.  Hello creamy peanut butter!!  Sadly they’re not gluten free, so I had one little bite and that was all, but it was enough to realise how delicious Crosstown Doughnuts truly are.  TBND got to enjoy the rest of it all to himself, lucky boy.

A few more Christmas gift purchases, Hello Kitty Candy Canes!!, and our reservation time was fast approaching.

We made our way over towards the Chanel fragrance counter, where an express lift takes you up to the rooftop restaurant.

Stepping out of the lift, we were greeted with a hallway of twinkling fairy lights.  Sooo pretty!

Le Chalet was full to the brim with diners, so I’d advise that you definitely make a reservation.

Once seated, we turned our attention to the Cocktail menu, or more specifically, the Choctail menu.

We ordered the Hazelnut and The Dominican and both were unbelievably delicious.

Moving swiftly on to the food menu, it was a tough choice!

In the end we both decided on the burger, and TBND went for the blue cheese fondue to start with.

Blue cheese fondue and crusty, sea salt flaked bread.  It doesn’t get much better!

Our burgers soon arrived.  They were definitely not the best burgers we’d ever eaten, a little too overcooked for our taste, but they were good enough to not leave a crumb on the plate.

Bellies full, we skipped dessert and settled the bill.

Back out into the darkening skies and hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, we escaped the West End and made our way home, with grand plans for some sofa and television time.
