Now how many of you can say they’ve thought ‘Ooooh I might go grab a coffee and chill out in a public toilet for a bit’? (Please I beg of you, if you’ve done that, DO NOT own up. It’s weird okay). So I guess I have some explaining to do, as that’s kinda what I did recently one Sunday afternoon.
I’d been desperate to visit the Attendant cafe for the longest time. At the beginning of each year I make a list of all the places I want to visit, eat and drink coffee at, and Attendant had been on my list for much too long. So there was no better time than this particular Sunday afternoon, with no plans in place for the day.
Attendant used to be a Victorian toilet, unused for over 50 years, until its owner had this whacky yet genius idea to convert it into a coffee shop.
It took two years of planning and restoration to create this awesome underground space, with seating areas, and the original porcelain urinals still in place.
Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon tea, you’ll find everything from almond milk porridge to Anzac biscuits, soups, sandwiches and salads. And of course coffee, from Caravan Roastery no less!
I spied Gluten Free cookies too! Us tricky lot are taking over the world!
We settled in for an Anzac Biscuit and a Protein Ball. I mean is this not the most perfect cafe ever? Gluten Free options AND Protein Balls? I’d certainly found my happy place. Even if it was a public toilet.
You really need to check this out, it’s such a fun little spot to visit, just look for the stairs descending down from the sidewalk on Foley Street W1W 6DY.
