Happy Monday everyone! Sorry is that a little too chipper for the start of the week? The sun is shining, and I’m not at work until 4.30pm so perhaps that’s why I’m in a good mood!
Either that, or the fact that I’ve gone a week refraining from refined sugar might be helping my moods to be less erratic. I’m pretty sure sugar does that to the best of us, causing us to have a yo-yo of emotions, up one minute, down the next.
So yah anyway, in order to keep me from reaching for a bar of Green and Blacks chocolate, I decided to meet my friend Anthony for ‘breakfast at lunchtime’ last Friday and we went to 26 Grains in Covent Garden.
I’m a little late to the party with a visit here, I mean it’s been blogged about a lot already, but better late than never I reckon. It was a chilly day, so the outdoor seating at 26 Grains were free, and whilst my crazy blog head was thinking ‘I would get the PERFECT photo out here, hello natural lighting!’, the tiny logical part of my brain agreed with Anthony when he pointed out we wouldn’t last very long outside before some form of hypothermia would likely set in.
So we squeezed inside, perused the menu, placed our order and got cosy amongst the other diners in the tiny cafe space. At which point Anthony and I should probably release a public statement: ‘Apologies to all diners for our level our chat, and worse, our level of laughter, it’s just that we are more fun than y’all’. Yup.
We both went for the Banana Cacao Porridge, and seeing as I had skipped breakfast, I was really looking forward to my bowl of Goldilocks fav.
I sipped on my almond milk latte, as Anthony and I shared horrendous experiences of riding rollercoasters, and we realised that yes we are getting old, and fearful, and we were both more than happy to admit that we’re perfectly happy keeping our feet firmly on the ground these days. (Both still traumatised by that awful tower drop at Thorpe Park! Ew! Have you been on that ride?).
Our porridge arrived, and I it really was delicious. The perfect combo of flavours, not too hot, not too cold, and just the right size. Goldilocks would have been well impressed. We both agreed our breakfast/lunch was a success and we’d definitely return for another bowl.
Both savoury and sweet bowl options are available, and I’m determined to pop in for one of their amazing looking Energy Balls. In your face Green and Blacks, you won’t entice me (as long as there’s no 70% Dark within arms reach, I’ll resist you!).
26 Grains is located in Neal’s Yard, Covent Garden and is open seven days a week. Go go go!
