Heading home for the holidays, I board my China Southern Airlines flight at Heathrow airport one chilly Sunday evening.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, having never flown them before, but things got off to a good start with a spare seat next to me.
I settled in for a VERY long journey, to Guangzhou, China.
China Southern exceeded my expectations. The seats were comfortable, the entertainment options were great. There were none of those awful window shutters, instead China Southern had some kind of automatic system where the window darkens, which means you never get the sun streaming straight into your eye when the passenger next to you decides to open the shutter to see the sunrise! Even the loos were self flushing, no touching that nasty handle, I love hygienic design!
Eventually we landed at Guangzhou. A bus ride to the airport, and finally I could stretch my legs with a walk through the airport.
With a 20 hour stopover, I had made a reservation at the Pullman Hotel, situated across the road from the airport.
Arriving at the Pullman, I encountered the sight of a 2 storey Christmas tree and woman playing the grand piano. I got the feeling this was going to be a very good 20 hour stopover.
I checked in and made my way to my room.
With my body clock all messed up and not knowing what time zone I was in, I decided to head to the spa for a facial.
Escorted into a private room, complete with my own sauna and tub, I changed into my robe.
And these funny red slippers.
The therapist arrived, and 60 minutes later I can say I experienced the best facial I’ve ever had in my life. It certainly wasn’t the cheapest, but it was worth every penny.
Relaxed and rejuvenated, I returned to my room for the evening.
My room was so lovely, full of good quality bath products and everything else you might need to make your stay a cosy one.
The bedroom and bathroom are separated by a glass wall, with an electronic curtain and that comes down at the touch of a button, for privacy.
My room was large, and the bed super comfy!
Jetlag kicked in and I settled in for the night. Well until I woke again at 3am, ARGHH!
Morning soon arrived.
Some caffeine and catching up on the blog, and I was ready to face round 2 of the journey.
Showered, checked out and back to the airport, I board my plane bound for Auckland, New Zealand… To Be Continued.
