It was the perfect weather for a day trip to Capri. The sun was beaming as we handed over our tickets and boarded the boat to take us to this glamorous island.
Being that our skin isn’t used to so much sun, we piled on layer upon layer of suncream, then sat back and enjoyed what is an amazing view the whole way to Capri. 45 minutes later, we disembarked and jumped on the funicular (that’s a cable car running up and down a really steep hill to us English speaking lot!), arriving in the piazza and ready to explore.
With no particular plan, we wandered through the boutique lined streets, which ooze style, wealth and glamour. Everywhere you look you spot designer stores from Gucci to Prada, it’s certainly not a poor man’s island! Needless to say, we just did a lot of window shopping ;o)
What is immediately obvious is how picturesque Capri is. Every corner you turn you discover a beautiful villa, a charming hotel, or the most amazing view. We turned a few wrong corners because I let TBND take control of navigation (boys know best right? – that was sarcasm), though I know for sure now if we ever took up orienteering, I’m definitely being in charge of the map AND the compass ;o) But turning wrong corners meant discovering all sorts of gems, and hotels so beautiful, with infinity pools that left us with a mental reminder to enter the lottery so we could return!
We walked and walked until our feet ached, but there is so much to see and discover on Capri, and we found ourselves making a list of things to do for the next time we returned. The sun was hot, and we were thirsty, so we head to a cafe with a gorgeous view of the bay, and ordered iced coffees. Nothing is cheap here, not even the coffee, but we both agreed this was one of the best iced coffees we’d ever had. Maybe it was because it was so hot, maybe it was because we had an amazing view whilst sipping our icy drinks, whatever the reason, it was worth the expensive price tag, as we relaxed under the shade of the cafe’s sun umbrella and sniggered at all the tourists taking selfies (including ourselves!).
With a couple of hours before we needed to board our ferry, we decided to walk down through the alleyways of Capri back to the harbour, instead of jumping on the funicular, and made our way to the beach, before strolling along the harbour and choosing which super yacht we’d purchase as soon as our winning numbers show up in the lottery.
Back on the boat, we sped towards Amalfi, changed for the evening, and took a stroll on a perfect summer’s night before tucking into yet another delicious Italian dinner.
We can’t wait to see Capri again! Have you been?
