I love Brixton Village, the vibe, the interesting people, but most importantly, the food. I’d spotted the gigantic burgers from The Joint numerous times as I’d wandered around the village, but I’d never actually sat down to devour one. So that needed to change.
TBND, his sis and I all met on a Sunday afternoon to give The Joint our full attention. We scanned the menu, we placed our order and we waited, somewhat impatiently.
I have no idea how I’d never heard of Hush Puppies before, being a big fan of American diner food, these delicious morsels had somehow bypassed me. They’re not kind to your thighs, but some calories are just worth it! Deep fried cornbread balls that ‘fried and went to heaven’ as Buzzfeed so aptly put it.
I’d have happily ordered another few rounds of Hush Puppies, but that’s not why I was there, I needed to try the burgers that I’d eyed up so many times!
TBND and his sis went for the BBQ chicken wings to start with.
And they looked equally as delicious as the Hush Puppies.
Starters over, our burgers arrived.
I went for the BBQ burger consisting of 16 hour slow cooked pulled pork, candied apple bacon, slaw and salad, all sandwiched together in a bun.
TBND went for the beef burger consisting of beef brisket, smoked aioli, bacon relish and salad.
Eleanor changed things up and went with an Asian wrap consisting of slow cooked shredded chicken, spring onion, ginger, chilli, slaw and salad.
Be warned, the meals are pretty damn filling! My favourite part of the meal was hands down the Hush Puppies, but the burgers and wraps are worth a try too!
We paid the bill, and waddled off 10 pounds heavier, with another restaurant ticked off our bucket list.
