This post is all about ice cream. And not just any old kind. Oh no! This is about the best damn ice cream sandwich your teeth will have the pleasure of sinking themselves into. You’ll be thanking me. And in advance, ‘You’re Welcome!’.
I also have to admit that this post is to prove I’m not all about green juice and protein balls. A friend posted a video to my Facebook wall this week, which featured a girl rapping about beetroot juice. The comment said ‘This reminded me of you!’. Hah! Okay fiiiiiine I do LOVE all that healthy shit, and I know my maca powder from my lucuma (don’t even ask). But I do eat junk too, I wouldn’t have this arse if I didn’t!
I mean, I’m like Pacman’s pre-menstrual wife when it comes to junk food. Let me at it. So I feel I need to redeem my beetroot juice loving self here. I’m cool, I’m badass, I do calories and saturated fat!
Soooo I’d heard about Blu Top Ice Cream. I keep my eyes peeled (ew not literally) for the best that London has to offer when it comes to all things food. I’d even spotted Blu Top when I was at the Emerald Street Brunch during summer. But I was yet to try their ice cream sandwiches.
That was about to change. A necessary change at that.
Hanging around Bermondsey last Saturday, I turned onto Druid Street, and I saw the little Blu Top Ice Cream truck. I’m not gonna lie, my mind had a little panic and thought ‘Annmaree, noooo, that gym session this morning is now WASTED!!!’. But I took that thought, mentally threw it down and Samba’ed the shit out of it, till it died a quick death, and I quickly got in line for ice cream.
Now the thing I love about Blu Top besides their kick arse ice cream, are the owners. You CANNOT have a cool product, and be a dick. So I’m happy to report that the owners are as cool as their ice cream.
For the ice cream sandwiches, you can choose between a bunch of different ice cream flavours, cookie flavours and a variety of toppings. But when everything sounds awesome, how the hell do you choose? You ask the owners, the very creators of this deliciousness. So I asked ‘Which is your favourite ice cream?’, and the reply I got? ‘I couldn’t possibly choose, that’s like asking someone to pick their favourite child!’. To which I pointed out there’s ALWAYS a favourite child, let’s not kid around here. And with that I was advised to choose Burnt Toast and Jam flavour. The recommended cookie for my sandwich was Brown Butter Choc Chip, and I chose chocolate peanuts for my topping.
Let me give it to you straight. This shit is worth getting fat for. I mean where do I start? With the awesome ice cream? The cookies? Or my fabulous choice in chocolate peanut topping? Each item is amazing, and then you put all three together, and that is true love right there.
And for those weirdo’s who say ‘ice cream sandwiches just aren’t my thing’, firstly, Um WHAT? And secondly, okay whatever, but then you cannot pass up the option of a Root Beer Float. They had me sold on the packaging even before testing it out.
There’s one downside to this whole story though. Blu Top Ice Cream have just one more weekend at Druid Street Market before they park up their little blue truck for winter. I’ve taken the liberty of checking London’s weather this Saturday for you, and so far there is no sign of rain. But even if there was, don’t let that stop you. Cancel all your other plans and make a beeline for an ice cream sandwich. Upon that very first bite, you’ll thank me forever.
