Detour | New York City Bound

new york

Ever since my birthday last month, when I found out TBND and I would be going to NYC, I’ve been compiling a list of places to see and food to eat.

We haven’t had a second to look at potential travel dates, life has been a little too busy lately, and with other travel plans now in the pipeline we’ll need to see just exactly where we can fit this trip in.  First world problems, huh?

The lack of departure date, however, hasn’t stopped me from compiling my list for when we do touch down at JFK.  My iPhone Notes app is filling up with lots of spots to take TBND to once we get there!

I’ve noted down some of my favourite spots, and researched a number of new ones that I’m so excited to visit.

I thought I would share my list with you, and of course, I would love any recommendations if you have something we simply MUST see, eat, or do.

Ideally we will stay around the Meatpacking District/West Village area (where the photo above was taken on my last visit!) I love this area, with its cobbled streets and village feel, not to mention the great restaurants, markets and boutiques.

So here it is, minus the obvious stuff i.e. Empire State Building etc!

FIKA NYC, a chocolate factory and coffee shop all rolled in to one (various locations)
Jacques Torres Chocolates (Tribeca)
Jacques Torres Ice Cream Store (Brooklyn)
Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory (Brooklyn)
Chobani Greek Yogurt Store (Soho)
Crumbs Bake Shop (various locations)
Serendipity III (Midtown East)
Big Gay Ice Cream (West Village)
Rice to Riches (Nolita)
Bagel Works (Upper East Side)

Norma’s @ Le Parker Meridien (Midtown)
Blockheads (Various locations)
Mariella Pizza (Midtown)
Tacombi (Nolita)
Bubby’s (Tribeca)
La Esquina (Soho)

Gotham West Market
Chelsea Market

230 Fifth (below Midtown)
Please Don’t Tell (PDT) (Lower East Side)
The Garret (West Village)

Highline (Meatpacking to 34th Street)
Basketball Game
Baseball Game

There is SO much to see in NYC, and I’ve been lucky enough to see so much of it already, but TBND will be taking his first ever trip there, so I intend on power walking around the city pointing out where I once lived, where I’ve stayed in hotels, my favourite shops and sights. There will never be enough time to show him everything and to create new memories, but that’s the beauty of NYC, you can never say goodbye, just see you soon!
