You’ve probably seen this years John Lewis Christmas ad, The Man on the Moon (pass me the tissues!). In typical John Lewis style, they’ve extended the ad’s theme throughout their department store on Oxford Street, with Man on the Moon gifts and sweets, and the pièce de résistance, the John Lewis Lunar Lookout on their rooftop.
The perks of freelancing is that I can visit places during the week when the crowds aren’t so crazy. When I found myself Christmas shopping on Oxford Street last week (I know, what was I thinking, it was already full of people!), I suddenly remembered I’d read about the John Lewis Lunar Lookout, and made a beeline for the department store. I made my way towards the rooftop having no idea what to expect.
As I walked out onto the rooftop it was love at first sight. Everywhere I looked there were snow covered Christmas trees. It was out of a storybook.
Christmas music, as well as the Man on the Moon tv ad theme song is played, and occasionally you’ll get caught in a faux flurry of snow.
They’ve built a Rossopomodoro up there, if you fancy eating a pizza whilst you glance out at the Lunar Lookout scenery.
There’s also three little snug’s, complete with cosy blankets and cushions if you want to shelter from the cold with a hot festive drink or have a little snooze!
I had a little sit down in one of the snugs and now I want my very own snug, they are so cute!
To complete the Lunar Lookout theme, there are two telescopes to try and spot the Man on the Moon (pass me the tissues again, it makes me emotional just thinking about the ad!).
I had my own little Man on the Moon moment too. Any opportunity for a photo really! ;o)
If you fancy a bit of rooftop shopping, they’ve also installed a pop-up shop selling moon-themed merchandise.
Glancing over the rooftop, down at Oxford Street, I could see shoppers, tourists and so many Christmas lights. London most certainly does Christmas well. I may have revisited the Lunar Lookout again a few days later, because it’s just too adorable, and you need to get your festive butt there too.
