Amalfi Lemon Tour
If you’ve been to Amalfi you’ll know that they’re famous for their lemon’s. Limoncello, lemon granite, lemon sorbet, you name it, you’ll find it used in everything from food to soap.
After watching a nifty little golf cart with an Amalfi Lemon Tour sign whizz up and down the main street of Amalfi, we became curious and decided to make a reservation. Jumping on the cart we were driven to the entrance of a Lemon Farm at the base of the Amalfi hills where our guides at Amalfi Lemon Experience were waiting.
The tour lasts around two hours, and in that time you walk through the groves and past lemon trees that are up to 800 years old. You may wonder how much info one can really give about the growing of a lemon, but believe me it’s an art, and a really interesting one.
The tour pauses in the cafe for lemon juice and cake before continuing down to the limoncello factory to sample the goods. There’s that old saying ‘if life gives you lemons, make lemonade’, but this does not apply to Amalfi lemons. If life gives you Amalfi lemons, bite straight into them like an apple because they aren’t bitter like the lemons we buy in British supermarkets. They’re in a whole amazing league of their own.
A fun way to spend a morning exploring lemon groves and learning why limoncello and lemon sorbet tastes so damn good. Plus they have a really cute dog which is totally a reason to go on this Amalfi Lemon Tour! And yes, I did co-ordinate my outfit with the lemons ;o)
